  4. Giant Cuttlefish
This program is an excellent resource for science information reports, explanations and discussions. Firstly it outlines the fascinating and unique features of the giant cuttlefish and its mass breeding at Point Lowly. Then it explains how scientists have determined the vulnerablitity of this species- the fact that the eggs are sensitive to high levels of salinity and the fact that they die after breeding, so that destruction of the eggs in one year could have a dramatic impact on the whole population. Finally there is the debate as to whether the establishment of a desalination plant for the use of the mining industry in their habitat will prove to be a mortal threat.

  10. Ibis invasion
Australian white ibis - or 'tip turkeys' as many call them - are a nuisance in cities, especially in the spring breeding season. But scientists fear they may become extinct as more pressure is put on the wetlands that are their native and adopted environments. An excellent example of the interaction of biotic and abiotic features of an environment and some effects of drought..
